URBAN LEDGENDS
Urban Ledgends are stories that have been passed down through generations from one family to the next- About hauntings, creatures, ghosts, or just plain old scary stories. Anywhere you go it is pretty likely that you will hear one variation or another of the same story-
The Vanishing Hitchhiker-
The story is about a man who was on his way home from a country club dance, and picks up a girl in a sheer evening gown. She climbs into the back seat seeing how the front seat was full of sporting goods. She hands him an address to take her to. As he is pulling up to the address he turns to talk with her and she is gone. Being a little confused and curious, he knocks on the door at the address and finds out that the girl he had picked up was the daughter of the gentleman's house he was at. She had died in a car accident a couple years prior to the incident.
Resurrection Mary-
(Considered one of the most famous ghosts in ChicagoLand)
It starts on a winter night in 1934. A young girl was killed in an autp accident while on her way home from a dance at O. Henry Ballroom on Archer Avenue in Justice III, a suburb in Chicago. A few years later in 1939 a cab driver picks up a girl in a white gown on Archer Avenue. She sat in the front seat and told him to drive north on Archer. After a short distance she asked him to stop the cab. She simply Vanished. The cab was stopped in front of Ressurection Cemetery. Where the girl is buried.
Witches Cemetery-
In a very small town in the country there is said to be a witch that is buried in a cemetery on a hill. It is said that if you put your car into neutral at the bottom of the hill that your car will be pushed up the hill.
BackSeat-
This girl was on her way home from a late night study session with some friends, she was extremely tired and it was raining. She realized that she was running low on gas, luckily she knew that there was a gas station that was full service not far from where she was. She took a deep breath tried her hardest to stay awake and was praying to make it to the gas station on time. When she had the gas station in sight she felt relief. She pulled in and the gas station attendant made his way around the car. She thought that he seemed rather distracted. But did not worry too much on account of her being tired. She asked him to fill it up, he agreed to get the gas. Then he asked her to pop the hood, because it smelled a little funny. He asked her to come look at the engine he wanted to show her something. Not thinking too clearly anyway she got out of her car and walked to the front. He grabbed her arm and told her that she would need to be towed and told her to come with him to the office. Then he placed his hand over her mouth and forced her into the office. As soon as the door was closed he removed his hand and started to appologize. "I am sorry that I scared you but there is a man that is crouched down in the back seat of your car and I did not want him to know that I saw him there." They called the police and the man was arrested. Turned out that the man was a serial killer and she was intended to be his next victim!
Banshee-
It is well known in Ireland that the Banshee is a spirit that is said to bring down a curse to all the family members of a certain origin. It is said that the Banshee's cries and screams drive them each insane one member of the family at a time.
The Babysitter and the Man upstairs-
There was a baby sitter watching a few children for friends of her parents. Through out the night she was recieveing repeated phone calls. Each one was from a man who would ask her in a menacing manner "Have you checked on the children?" some of the phone calls the man also would state that he has killed the children and that she was next. The babysitter who was terrified out of her wits and too affraid to go upstairs to check on the children alone decides to call the police. The police operator tells the frightend girl to keep the man on the line the next time that he calls so that they can trace the call. After the next call, the police operator calls the girl and tells her to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE RIGHT AWAY! There was a policeman waiting outside who explained that the call was traced to a telephone line that was located upstairs in the house. When the police locate the man he is not sitting far from the phone from which he called and had already murdered the children and was ready to kill her if she were to come upstairs to check on them.
Body on the Car
A man was sitting at a bar one night from happy hour until about 2am. He leaves the bar dead drunk heading home. He managed to make it home and stumble into his home and into his bed. The next morning he was awaken by the screams of his wife who had gone out to get the morning paper. He ran outside where is wife was pale and shaken with shock. On the front grill of his car was what appeared to be the body of a girl.
