PURGATORY MICHIGAN

Pugatory- In Roman Catholic theology, a state or place where the souls of those who have dies penitent are made fit for paradise by expiating venial signs and undergoing any punishment remaining for previously forgiven sins. Any Place or state of temporary banishment, suffering, or punishment.
There is an area in Southern Michigan that is known as Purgatory. It is unknown exactly how this area got its name. But most people in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan, even farther have grown up hearing all the stories and Urban Ledgends that surround this area. It is a place where people go hunting, and a favorite spot for mushroom hunters.
The Actual name of Purgatory is Three Rivers State Game Area. Now I have been researching Purgatory for almost 2 years now. I guess you can call it an obsession for facts. Most people enjoy a little scare. However, although there are many strange outrageous stories that originated here, there is a little bit of truth that lies within them all. The following is Our Story along with some of the other things that make Purgatory what it is.
Goat Man- Lives in an isolated part of woods that are in what is known as the Purgatory Limits. It is said that whoever comes across the Goat Mans place will never be seen again. Another twist is that you can not find the Goat Man's place on purpose. You kind of just stumble upon it.
Hell Hounds- There is a man in black who storlls the back roads of Purgatory. His face lies in shadows. He carries a large walking stick, and is ALWAYS seen with a companion. People have labeled this companion of his, the Hell Hound. For this dog stands larger than the largest dog, its claws like daggers, its teeth snarled like razor blades, and its eyes as red as the hottest fires.
Cemetaries-
There are Cemetaries both inside Purgatory and on the outskirts- You see Purgatory actually is in two counties. Cass County Michigan, and St. Joseph County Michigan. It DOES NOT stretch across the entire counties, but it is in both.
Brick Chapel Church- Is on the Out skirts of Purgatory but it is one of the places that I have spent the most time. You can find so intresting pictures that I took on the pictures page. Brick Chapel is an abandoned church that was at one time Methodist. It has a cemetary that sits across the street. Its name is Also Brick Chapel. I found out on a search engine that Constantine Township (Cass County) will not allow anyone else to be buried in the cemetary. Although there are still open plots. The township claims to have "lost" records concerning this cemetary. I emailed the lady that posted the entry but when I got to asking questions about the area known as Purgatory all she would say was that she grew up there and never experienced anything strange and then stoped emailing. I personally believe that Brick Chapel is a Dor. There is alot of energy that surrounds this church with its cemetary. Every where you walk you get the feeling of being watched, there is alot more that goes along with that however that will come later! What We do know is that Lydia Nichols is the present owner of the Property which Brick Chapel Church sits on. The large backdoor of the Church was placed there so that the previous owner could park his tractor inside.
ShaveHead Lake Cemetary- This Cemetary is located in St. Joseph County however it is about 5-10 mins from Brick Chapel. This Cemetary has about the same layout of Brick Chapel except that it is much larger. About the same as the above you get the sensation that you are constanly being watched and again the rest will come later!
The other two cemeteries I will be posting once I can get some more information on them.
Other intresting Facts-
April 14th, 1897 @ 10:45pm Several Citizens of Constantine Township saw " mysterious lights" one quarter the size of the full moon. Heading north with a zig zag motion. One witness estimated its speed at 60mph. Source- UFO round-up Vol-03 March 4th, 1996
June, 1964: the Monster of Sister Lakes. Seen off and on for two years prior. Woman in Dewey Lakes reported a thing 9 feet tall and weighng 500 pounds chased her into her house at night. Covered with black hair up to its neck, eyes reflecting at night. Police reported to have found barefoot human like prints 6 inches wide.
JULY 2005- Well some more intresting places have been Discovered here in Purgatory!! There was a youth camp as WELL as the Capone Mansion remains. Also a factory that was half sunken in a swamp. There is also a place known as BLOOD Rock that has been discussed but has yet to be seen by me. However I will post what I know about that place as well.
BLOOD ROCK- Blood Rock is located somewhere within the HEART of Purgatory! Blood Rock is supposedly the place where AL Capone MURDERED a number of people. It is said that when walking atop of this rock you can see the blood stains from his victims. Whenever it is that I see this place I will post my findings.
UPDATE- Still have not been able to locate the Rock- If anyone knows how to get here let us know!
YOUTH CAMP- Now the Youth camp is located not FAR from Brick Chapel Church. However if you are wanting DIRECTIONS to any of these places you will need to email me at- Bkrissykitty1@yahoo.com . You can not MISS this place it sits right off to the Left hand side of the road. RIGHT across the street are the remains of what is suppose to be the remains of Al Capone's Mansion. The mansion was burned due to Arson in March 2003. We will get to that soon enough! Now the Youth Camp itself consists of 5 SEPERATE structures. 1 barn- The main Structure which was initially thought to be a school of some kind, but later discoved to be a Pole Barn. The other three appear to be housing. Including bathrooms. Across the street next to the Capone Mansion remains is another Building that belongs to the Youth Camp. The housing facilities are all the same building types. There is a Swing set with one regular swing and one baby swing. There is only one basketball hoop and that is located across the street with the single cottage. The grass as of now is about waist heigh. The barn in the back also appears to have been caught on fire. The fires HAD to be set seperately, due to the distance between the two buildings. The Youth camp was under major remodeling when it caught fire. It was due to be opened later this year- (2005) 3-16-2005 is when the article was posted about the blaze, in the Sturgis Journal. What makes this place so intresting is that the only items of PAPER discovered were two newspapers dated in 1992. One from the Kalamazoo Gazette another from the South Bend Tribune. There are metal bunks in EVERY building as well as a stacks of matresses in one. There are Desks and tables. There are also chairs that were still pushed in to makeshift desks by the walls. There were NO Injuries OR deaths reported. The places is DEFINATELY errie by sight. However there were no ODD feelings that I felt while walking amongst this place. HOWEVER there are people who have captured some pretty intresting things on Video tape. When there are some pictures Developed they will be POSTED!
UPDATE!!!- The Spring of 2005 the remains of the Youth Camp Buildings were torn down, and the place being prepared for renovations. While the buildings that were standing turned out to hold no real spiritual signifigance there are some pictures that were taken before the buildings were destroyed that turned up some pretty intresting things! We also located some others builings and remains from long ago. Check out the photo album for these pics.
AL CAPONE'S MANSION- There are only a few things that remain of this place. Mostly one side of foundation and a WHOLE lot of bricks. There are also two chimneys that have been left laying on their sides. The bricks are VERY neatly layed in a nice path. They are in a heap however and appear to be covering up at least ONE tunnel that is known to be at this place. It would take a BACK HOE at least to get it uncovered. There is also an UNDERGROUND room that has been completely unharmed. It has a door still and it locks from the outside. On the inside of this room (it can fit more than 18 people at one time), there is a hole directly in the middle of the ceiling, there is a shelf along one wall. There are metal hooks coming from the ceiling as well. There is also a small brick (looks similar to a chimeny or fireplace) that stretches from the floor through the ceiling, its only about 1 foot wide, with a small hole at the bottom. The floor is Dirt.
UPDATE!!!!- This room happens to be an old wine cellar of sorts- by 1st appearance it seems to be some sort of confinement area!
THE HALF SUNKEN BUILDING- A little way down the path from the underground room, is a building that is half immersed with water. This is located basicly in the river. It has what looks like barred windows that open from the outside in. That you pull down. The building only has two rooms about 10 feet by 10 feet each. You can walk on top of this structure. There are also stairs that are immersed in water there are about 9 of them that are going up the side of the building. DIRECTLY behind this is what looks like a man made damn. That water is also flowing through. It is possible that it all SUNK and that is why it appears this way. There are two concerete slabs that go across the LARGE hole. You can walk across these. The hole is about a 15 foot drop and is rather long and wide. There are metal grates and other metal debris that are inside of the hole as well as the water. It is hard to say what this actually was. It is possible that it was a room in the Mansion that has mostly sunk. Over time I am sure that the remains of it will as well.
UPDATE!!!- This building is actually an Old Mill Building- Water Mill that is!! Is is Located on the old Capone Property, and not far from the Youth Camp!
THE FACTORY- There is also another building that has been discovered in this same area. It appears to be a factory. OVER HALF of this building has SUNK into a swamp. There is NOTHING known about this place at this time. Other then it was captured on a VIDEO tape and on the tape you can clearly hear what sounds like metal being moved around on the inside. As more developes it will be posted!
UPDATE!!!!- As of the last few trips this building has STILL not been re-discovered!!
